linear thinking has been useful, but it is not enough for creating a life that fits within a holistic reality. causes are effect, effects are causes, and the rational and the logical are not enough to explain reality, without putting serious limits on possibility.  i am not saying they are wrong, or not useful, i am saying they are not enough.  we need a post-linear understanding.
